Ethics Complaint Review Process

The National Association of Christian Counselors (NACC) is committed to maintaining high ethical and professional standards among its certificants. Individuals who believe an NACC-certified individual has violated the NACC Code of Ethics or engaged in conduct inconsistent with the standards of the NACC may submit an ethics complaint for review.

Complaints We Review

The NACC may review complaints involving:

  • Violations of the NACC Code of Ethics
  • Misrepresentation of NACC credentials or certifications
  • Conduct that falls outside the scope of an individual’s education, training, or NACC certification
  • Professional misconduct related to services provided under an NACC certification

The NACC does not investigate fee disputes, theological disagreements, employment matters, or complaints involving individuals who are not currently certified by the NACC.

How the Review Process Works

  1. A written complaint is submitted through the NACC Ethics Complaint Form.
  2. The complaint is reviewed to determine whether it falls within the jurisdiction of the NACC.
  3. If appropriate, the NACC may request additional information from the complainant and/or the certificant.
  4. The complaint is evaluated in accordance with the NACC Code of Ethics and applicable NACC policies.
  5. When warranted, appropriate corrective or disciplinary action may be taken.

Every complaint is reviewed individually. Submission of a complaint does not automatically result in disciplinary action.

Scope of NACC Certification

NACC certification does not authorize individuals to practice medicine or any profession requiring state licensure unless they independently hold such credentials. NACC certificants are expected to practice within the education, training, and certification they have received and to make appropriate referrals whenever a client’s needs exceed their qualifications.

Confidentiality

The NACC makes every reasonable effort to maintain the confidentiality of ethics complaints while conducting a fair and impartial review. Information may be shared only as necessary to investigate the complaint or as otherwise required by law.
